Kyle's Blog

Kyle's first international travel experience was as a 15 year old on a mission trip to Panama in 1996 with Teen Mania ministries. The month long experience exposed him to a whole new world of culture, poverty and ministry. The following year he traveled again with Teen Mania to Spain and Morocco and felt the call to full-time Chrisitan ministry. As a sophomore in college, immediately after his wedding to wife Nicole, he started as the part-time youth pastor at his home church in Portage, MI, and later would take a full-time youth ministry position at a church in his hometown of Schoolcraft, MI, for a total of 5 years as a youth pastor. In 2005, Kyle left his youth ministry position to rethink the direction of his life. The family moved to Grand Rapids, MI, where he was challenged by his church to become involved in Africa. At the same time, he was introduced to a fledgling organization called Orphan Justice Mission. After moving back to the Kalamazoo area as Sales and Marketing Director for Miracle Camp and Retreat Center in 2006, he took a solo trip to Uganda and Kenya to get a first hand glimpse of the orphan crisis and was able to connect with some members from OJM who happened to be traveling to Uganda at the same time. Following the trip, Kyle, Tim Stoner and Bill Terpstra discussed ministry methodologies and the future direction of OJM and a partnership was formed. Kyle moved from volunteer to board member to part-time Executive Director over a three year span. In November 2009, Kyle and his family made the decision to leave the camp position and become OJM's first full-time Executive Director. "OJM is a dream-come-true for me," he says. "It's a privilege and honor for me to be able to help find lasting solutions to the orphan crisis. It's a perfect fit for my love of the church, love of kids, need for adventure and my deep passion for helping Chrisitians make a tangible difference in the world."

Kyle is a graduate of Western Michigan University with a Bachelor's degree in the liberal arts. He is currently pursuing his Master's in International Development Administration, also at WMU. He is the volunteer pastor for a church plant in the Portage area, loves bicycling, motorcycles, public speaking, reading, board games, dics golf, photography and computer programming. He, his wife Nikki and their three girls live in Mattawan, MI.

Paul Seruwagi
Ugandan Development Initiative Coordinator
Paul's Blog

Paul has been a friend and "volunteer" for OJM for several years now and has proved himself a compassionate, visionary and skillful leader. Paul made the decision to leave his job at a weekly newspaper in Uganda to pitch in with OJM full-time as of January 1, 2010 and we are so grateful to have him overseeing our work on the ground in Uganda. Paul is excited, too, as evidenced by his email:

"Thanks for trusting me with the coordination responsibility and the opportunity to work and minister with you brothers, towards facilitating a better life for the children and the community in Rakai and Uganda in general. Brethren, together with my family, we are praying Paul and Timothy's prayer to the people in Michigan. That let The Lord fill us and you brothers, the knowledge of his will for the community, wisdom and spiritual understanding, to fully please Our Lord. Colossians 1:3-12."
